Michelle Li is a 16 year old living in the midst of suburbia. She is enrolled at Herricks High School where she is in a gifted arts program called STAC. Michelle worked with artists at Oogie Art and at Ashcan Studio of Art, attended Pratt Institute's summer pre-college program, and has studied with notable traditional Chinese artist, Bing Chen. She is currently employed as a photographer/apprentice at Lilypad Photo Studio by B.A. Van Sise.
As a first-generation American in an immigrant household, Michelle often finds herself juggling the traditions of her Chinese roots and the modern American world in which she lives; this dichotomy is expressed in her art making practice. Ever in search of ways to express her identity, she is a constant explorer of different media and materials ranging from painting to printmaking to sculpture, photography and baking.
Michelle draws inspiration from Art Nouveau and Post-Impressionism, as well as Pop and other Post-Modern American art movements. She is always traveling in & out of the 5 boroughs of NYC on the hunt for experiences, good food, interesting art, and new opportunities.
